WELCOME to my site! If you have any questions or
comments feel free to contact me. I hope to keep
this updated with news, beads and current projects
I'm working on.
ABOUT BEADMAKING
Molten glass is wound around a stainless steel rod that is
coated with a substance called bead release. As the bead
is formed on the rod, the rod is slowly turned to keep it
centered. As more layers of glass are applied, the bead is
kept at a constant temperature to prevent cracking. The
difficulty in creating beads depends on how many layers of
glass are applied. The price or value of a bead depends on
the size, time and difficulty in creating the design. When
the bead is finished it is quickly placed into a kiln that is
kept at a constant temperature. Beads are kept at this
temperature until it is time to cool them off. This is done
very slowly and is called annealing. After they are cooled
completely they are taken off the mandrel (after soaking
in water) and the holes are cleaned. They are now ready
for stringing!!
